Abstract

The important role that science plays in computer-graphics image synthesis is discussed. Simulated scenes of environments with diffuse and specular reflections as well as light scattering are used as examples to demonstrate how tristimulus colorimetry and color-naming systems are used in computer graphics. These examples also illustrate the need for color-science literacy in the field of computer graphics.
