Abstract

Primary to any control of transitional flows is the consideration of the basic state and the disturbance. One objective is to actively suppress the disturbance so that stability is restored to the basic state. Another objective is to alter locally the characteristics of the basic state at the inception of instability and prevent or postpone further evolution of the flow towards turbulence. Work is in progress along both lines; samples of this work are briefly reported here.
