N2 - Meldrum's acid reacted with an aryl isothiocynate and alkyl halides to afford the 5-(arylamino(alkylthio)methylene)-5-methylthio-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4, 6-diones and the compounds underwent thermal cyclization to give the 4-2-arylthio-4(1H)-quinolones.
