Abstract

First-, 3rd, and 5th-grade children judged the relative ease of recalling a list that was organized semantically, physically, or randomly. Results suggest that awareness that semantic organization yields higher recall than physical organization appears at a later age than the simpler understanding that semantic organization yields higher recall than no organization.
