Abstract
State taxes on mining, Particularly for western coal, have increased considerably during the last few years. This paper reports estimates of the state and local taxes that would be paid by a 5 million ton per year coal mine and its employees in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming. Estimates of each type of tax levied at each level of government, as well as intergovernmental aid payments are provided.
