Exclusive electroproduction of π0 mesons

Abstract

A measurement of the π0 electroproduction cross section via the process 1H(e; é p) π0 has been made in the momentum transfer region 6.3 GeV < Q2 < 7.8 GeV and for hadronic invariant masses from pion threshold up to 1.4 GeV. The information contained in the differential cross section is used to probe the Δ resonance region where transition form factors such as G* M(Q2) can be extracted. The data will be used to extract the ratio of electric quadrupole to magnetic dipole Δ excitation amplitudes, E2/M1.
