Abstract

In vivo data available in scoliosis research is very limited in the area of three dimensional vertebral position and orientation. A retrospective study requires data from the past. Unless a particular method has consistently been used in the past and is currently being used to monitor the same cases, little comparative information can be obtained. The method described here obtains the global vertebral location and orientation from standard two meter anterior/posterior (AP) radiographs. The data obtained from this method will be used to create a three dimensional scoliosis data base. Vertebral position and orientation correlations between progressive and non-progressive curves can then be investigated.
