Abstract

Risk assessment is a tool that assists risk management decisions at the time of uncertainty, and risk assessments concerning the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) asses the risk of diseases occurring in the particular region either by importation of affected animals of contaminated foodstuffs. The growing epidemic of BSE in the UK has led to the development of a number of quantitative methods to help the country access a variety of environmental health hazards incorporating groundwater contamination, basically to design model nature to put potential risk in perspective. The assessments have become more model dependent where errors in the assumptions invalidate the conclusion, and the risk assessment for BSE requires robust approaches to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the tool. The process of data gathering and development of the analytical model in assessment needs to take concerns from government agencies, food industries as well as consumers.
