A modified approach to the slab method for predicting the loads, stress distribution, and shape in an axisymmetric upset forging process with non-uniform deformation is introduced. Material and frictional characteristics, experimental data, and theoretical knowledge obtained from more elaborate mathematical analyses are all used to synthesize a solution that can be used to describe and control the process with reasonable accuracy.
