NEW ORGANOMETALLIC POLYMERS CONTAINING TUNGSTEN CARBENE COMPLEXES.

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

The vinyl tungsten carbene monomer (1) polymerizes in bulk at 25 degree C over 24 h to produce the first polymer containing tungsten carbene complexes (2). Homopolymer 2 produced in this manner is an orange solid (dec. 80 degree C) and is insoluble in all organic solvents. Characterization of this polymer included elemental analysis, CP MAS solid **1**3C NMR, FT reflectance IR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Upon stirring 2 in dimethyl sulfoxide for 7 d a novel copolymer of tungsten carbene fragments and poly(methyl acrylate) is formed. This copolymer is soluble in methylene chloride and has been characterized by IR and **1**3C NMR spectroscopy.
