Abstract
Three sets of model polyolefin block copolymers were prepared through the anionic polymerization of polydiene precursors, followed by heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation. Poly(ethylene-propylene) (PEP), poly(ethylene) (PE), and poly(ethylethylene) (PEE) where combined to yield PEP-PEE, PEP-PE, and PE-PEE- diblock copolymers with varying molecular weights and compositions. Equilibrium phase behavior was established using small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and rheological measurements conducted on quenched and shear-oriented specimens. The occurrence of multiple ordered phases has been documented in all three polyolefin block copolymers and is attributed to differences in the block statistical segment lengths. These results will be discussed in the context of universal block copolymer phase behavior.
