Abstract

Ferromagnetic shape memory effects in Ni 2MnGa thin films were investigated. Structural characterization of the films indicate that films grow pseudomorphically on GaAs (001) substrates. The films exhibit coercivity of ∼50 Oe and saturation magnetization of ∼250 emu/cm 3. Observation using a polarized-light optical microscope showed large movement of the cantilevers.
