Abstract
Within the limitations of this particular model that sodium amobarbital does not interfere with the ability of asymptomatic subjects to carry out purposefully directed psychomotor tasks. This empirical observation along with the fact that sodium amobarbital has a specific pharmacologic effect in catatonic schizophrenia supports the inference that stuporous catatonia does not fit a model of volitionally controlled behavior.
