Abstract

A demonstration of stereotype measurement suitable for medium to large classes is described. The demonstration illustrates McCauley and Stitt's (1978) diagnostic ratio measure and examines the validity of the “kernel of truth” hypothesis. The exercise provides a starting point for a discussion of stereotypes and their measurement. The results of the demonstration are reported along with suggestions for discussion of a variety of concepts related to the diagnostic ratio measure and stereotype formation.
