Supervision in the practice of psychology: Toward the development of a supervisory instrument

Supervision is an essential facet of quality control within the profession of Psychology. Ethical and legal issues inherent in supervision need to be addressed further, especially in light of the current climate favoring litigation for professional liability. The authors address the need for supervisors to clarify their roles and provide better summative assessment of supervisees' competence and professional characteristics. The Minnesota Supervisory Inventory (MSI) is currently under development for internship training. The MSI is amenable to adaptation for postdoctoral practice in many contexts including within private practice settings.
