Abstract

The effect of ultrathin (nominal thickness of 0.25nm) Ag layers added in different locations of FePt thin film on the L10 FePt phase ordering has been investigated. After the Ag layer is deposited on the bottom of the FePt film, the coercivity increases from about 1 to 1.6kOe. When the 0.25nm Ag layer is moved from the bottom to the top of the film, the coercivity gradually increases to about 3kOe. The δM curves suggests that the exchange coupling in the FePt film was decreased when the additive Ag layer was deposited in the middle or on the top of the FePt films while it remains unchanged when Ag layer was on the bottom of the FePt layer compared with the δM curve of FePt film without Ag layers.
