Abstract

Synthesis of four-bar linkages for three design positions has been implemented on a micro-computer and incorporated into an existing four design position program - LINCAGES. This new program provides for both three and four precision position specification methods under a common user interface. The program runs on IBM PC/XT/AT computers with full color graphics and has mnouse-based interactive capabilities. When prescribing the motion of a mechanism with three finitely separated positions (rather than four or five), there are a larger number of free choices available to the designer. A design example is presented which demonstrates the features of this package using the three precision position mode. A simple rocker-rocker mechanism that might serve as an assembly line pick-and-place linkage is synthesized and analyzed.
