Abstract

The John Deere 1490D slash bundler forest biomass collector is one machine that solves various problems regarding the collection of limbs, twigs, foliage, non salable timber and other forest residues. The unit collects forest debris, compresses material and binds it into six to ten feet long bundles that are two feet in diameter. The 1490D was tested in southeastern Arkansas on loblolly pine stands using a ratio-delay method. The machine reduced volume by about 80% and has been productive all throughout.
