Abstract

Outcome assessment by using specific questionaires is critical in evaluating the efficacy of orthopaedic procedures. The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) is a valid and reliable instrument to evaluate foot and ankle pathologies. For the validation of the German version, a sample of 150 patients with foot- and ankle-related disorders was included in the study. Test-retest reliability and internal consistency (Cronbachs α) were excellent. There were moderate to strong correlations between FAOS subscales and SF-36, NRS for pain and disability and the hannover questionnaire. The German version of the FAOS is a reliable and valid instrument for use in patients with foot and ankle pathology. Future use of the score in clinical studies will allow comparison with the international literature.
